This folder contains various font tools which you can use to build, test and use QuickDraw™ GX fonts. Here is a brief description of each tool:
Font Validator: Checks the validity of both the non-GX and the GX parts of a TrueType™ font. It produces a report listing any anomalies it found, along with how severe those anomalies are. Although not exhaustive, it is useful for identifying many typical problems.
GXifier: Automatically adds GX tables to existing non-GX TrueType fonts, making those fonts much easier to use in GX-savvy applications. It also gives you access to parts of your fonts that you may not have had access to in the past.
GXWaterfall: Allows you to select from all the glyphs in a font and produce waterfall printouts. Very useful in proofing fonts.
GXWrite: A very simple (and somewhat buggy) word processor application that uses GX typography. When used with GX-rich fonts (such as Apple Chancery™ or Skia™, or any GXified TrueType font) it gives you access to the GX features of that font.
Mutator: Allows you to add variation axes to TrueType fonts.
Poster: Lets you create lines of text, styled using the full richness of GX fonts. The lines can be placed anywhere and can be transformed (that is, rotated, scaled, skewed and perspected).
TrueEdit: Allows you to add GX tables to a TrueType font. This tool differs from the GXifier in that you have much greater control over the varieties of GX features that can be added to a font (while the GXifier only adds a fixed set of capabilities). NOTE: most GX TrueType fonts are released in a form that cannot be completely edited by TrueEdit, so use it starting with a non-GX font.
